RFID = Radio Frequency Identification (identification using radio waves)
With an RFID system, get a non-contact readings that do not require any physical contact.

An RFID system consists of three main components: a transponder (a chip and coil), an antenna and a reader. Information carrier and the reader can look at different ways but the function is the same.

-The reader creates an electromagnetic field which bends with a certain frequency, transponder that provides sufficient voltage to activate and to return its content as desired. The reader translates and interprets the signal and presents the selected way.

Reading distance varies from few millimeters up to several meters. The distance is affected by the transponder type and size, the size of readers antenna surface and the surrounding environment.

Radio waves can pass through almost any material except metal.
Different systems work with different frequencies, depending on what you want to achieve. Frequencies provides different features and systems have been developed to exploit the properties in the best way.

The most common European RFID frequencies are:

LF              Low Frequency                                30-300kHz
HF1            High Frequency                                13,56 MHz
HF2            High Frequency                                433 MHz
UHF            Ultra High Frequency                        868 MHz
MW            MicroWave                                     2,45 GHz
